At certain times of the day, when a strong current is carrying a rich soup of food particles across the face of the coral reef, the polyps emerge to feed. When this happens they transform the look of the reef and the stone corals appear to be in "bloom". The face of the reef shimmers and sways with the rhythm of the wave action.
